Craziness, Waiting, Scared, Happy, Unknown.

All of these words describe US right now.  There a few million more but the blogger title police only allow these.
On Monday at noon I sat at a wives luncheon.  I was surrounded by new friends that over a short period of time have grown dear to my heart.  The luncheon was a focus on Christianity and the power it can have in the life of a professional baseball players wife.  The speaker went through a list of adjectives that described the highs and lows that we go through during a season.  Little did I know, I would be experiencing every word she uttered in less than 48 hours.
On Tuesday evening there was a night game.  I was working while Reese was sleeping and I checked the game to see if Dallas went in.  Hmmm....is he hurt?  Why wasn't he put in?  He was wondering this too.  He even joked to teammates "Maybe I'm on waivers"  (they usually don't play you so you don't get hurt and they get stuck with ya).  All the players laughed. Turns out Dallas is a psychic not a comedian. From here on I'll talk kindergarten baseball talk, so those of you in the baseball world, just ignore it.  I always get annoyed when people talk baseball like I am stupid, but we've had so many questions, it's just easier to write to answer friends and family.  Plus, half of it I didn't know until we had the pleasure of experiencing it.  I digress.
On Monday, the Marlins told our agent we were on the team.  As of 2pm Dallas was making it. We felt good.  If he was there on Wednesday, we are paid for the year no matter what.  A breathe of fresh air. Dallas was released a couple hours shy of that.  Dallas teammates were shocked.  The coaches were.  They have been wonderful about calling and wondering why.  The Pres. made the decision.  Dallas was out of options, the thing you long for as a player.  You can't be sent down. You have to make the team or they lose you.  Good news, right?  It is great news any time except the last week of Spring Training. It is the absolute worst time to be released. Everyones rosters are set.  They are full.  They are cutting guys.  They have 5 guys for 1 spot.  To add to that, when Dallas went on waivers (wed. at 2pm.) that was the day that anyone on the 25 man roster gets paid.  In other words, a team claims Dallas off waivers, they have to put him in the big leagues, pay his salary plus the guys salary they cut.  Yeah, turns out people don't like to do that...
So, where are we?  Emotions are all over.  I have to be honest.  I am good.  I am the biggest worrier you will EVER meet, ever. (Just check out my bitten to the core fingernails for proof) But, our first bible study with the Marlins this Spring was on worrying.  Wendy really spoke to me. GIVE IT TO GOD.  He is in control.  I handed him the keys that day.  I'm not taking them back, either.
Dallas walked in that night and guess what was on my head?  Seriously, I had on a Marlins hat that I had never worn (it was free & very tacky) but for some reason I had it on.  Dallas instructed me that I might want to take it off.  He left off the part that we needed to run the car over it. He told me the news.  He was shocked. I was too.  We were on the team.  We called them this off season and ask to be non tendered if we weren't in the mix, they tendered us.  The GM told Dallas to get his passport just a couple days ago.  The clubby had him pick his locker. We just talked to the manager at breakfast. What?  It's baseball.  Who knows.  I do know this. The only thing Dallas liked about the Marlins were the players.  He made some wonderful friends that we will always keep friendships with. He loved so many of the coaches.  We've wondered why last year when we had several offers we chose them.  Something told us to choose them.  I know why.  It was the friendships.  Last years guys made him love the game again.  God gave us happiness in his career.  Just like God is giving him what he needs now.  He was unhappy with the organization, wasn't even given a shot in Spring, so OK.  Bye bye (or maybe I should be saying "Adios" for the team that wants be all Latin? sorry, even Christians can be sarcastic, right?) So, we part ways.  That's ok.  We are not unhappy that he is gone, it's just the timing.  That's where the anger comes in.  They held onto him til the last second, knowing no one claims anyone this late.  They even already had the audacity to call and offer a AAA job with a better big league offer.  Yes, please, we'll jump right on that. Teams were in need of 1st and 3rd basemen, they picked up guys just days before.  Where does that leave us?
Who knows.  Who knows what is next for us. God does.  That's who. I just hate what it does to Dallas.  He kind of doesn't know what to do.  He can't workout, hit, his friends are all playing. What the heck does he do with himself?  I tried to talk him into toilet papering the President's car but he didn't bite.  We are teaching Reese to say "Marlins Suck"  (excluding our friends, of course).
So, we wait.  We won't know anything until Friday afternoon.  We know it is impossible to be claimed right now (courtesy of aka Mr. Sucky Presdent himself), so we will weigh our options. Waiting is hard.  The good thing is we have wonderful friends.  Last night, the Bakers came over and I babysat Averie so her and Reese could play before they left while Ashley & Brian had a date night.  We had lunch with them today too.  On a happy note, Brian made the Cardinals team! I am so thankful for the girls.  So many wives, girlfriend text me, called and were so supportive.  In a few short months I made so many great friendships.  God placed us here for that reason.  That's enough for me.
On a good note, we are getting some quality time with Dallas.  Reese LOVES that.  Gigi is here too.  That is making it all better.
I have faith and I know everything turns out the way He planned it.  I will admit it feels good blogging.  And you are a super friend if you made it to the end of this post!
Prayers would be greatly appreciated.  Gigi already used her direct line to speak to Him. The best part?  Reese.  She has no clue.
He's a big leaguer to her...and me too.

  2. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" It is my daily reminder to myself and now Dallas can use it. Tell him don't give up. "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7 We are all praying for you!! I love you!

  3. Baseball sucks (sometimes). The Marlins REALLY REALLY suck... shoot girl, but thank goodness our God knows what he is doing. just like he nudged you towards the Marlins, he will nudge that new team straight to Dallas. Never forget, just when we think he is so far away God is really just working on something "new" in our lives. I will NEVER forget when we thought our baseball days were over. This awesome, new, on fire, been in the big leagues before, player got signed to the Marlins to be their 3rd baseman. Great. Just something else to push us backwards.. a few months later I met his wife. a awesome friend that I will be friends with forever! Not to mention Lee and Lux got a friend out of it to! Ha! Tons of love and prayers but I already know its all going to work out just perfect!

  4. Girl I am so Sorry! This is a crazy life we live. Our lives are extreme, one second we are in the clouds living the dream & the next we on our knees begging for the strength to get through it. "We are on our knees with you" (literally), praying to the Man who has it all planned out. "Be Still & Know." One day we will see the masterpiece he is working on.

  5. I am so very sorry. Y'all will be in my prayers. I know you used "baby baseball talk" but I still didn't understand everything, but you don't have to try and dumb it down even more for me. There's so much about that world I didn't even know that I didn't know. I just don't understand the whole mentality of trying to screw someone over just to try and save a dime when you're a megamillionaire.

Like you I have my faith... Things will work out! This is not a game but a cruel business and it messes with our lives! We have to be the strong ones for our families... I will be praying for all of you!

  12. You, Dallas and tiny are in my prayers...I am glad you blogged about it--to at least get all those thoughts out. Keeping it all just makes us fester. Also, I feel for you as Dallas's wife. I can't imagine how to know how to act in such a situation. I am thinking of you--and sending my love our way. As you said, leave it to God. That is all you can do honey.

  13. I like cdsbraddy's comment- short and sweet! I second that!! Isn't it amazing how things like that happen, sitting at that luncheon and thinking about all those emotions we've felt at different times along this road helps remind us of where we've been and how we got to where we are. This is just another curve in the road leading you to the next place God wants you to be. Just wish that place was here hanging out with me!! ; )

  14. Jenn,
So sorry about what you are going through right now. These are the parts of baseball I DO NOT miss! We were with that organization for a long time and I agree with everthing you said about them.(two times we went through something kinda similar with them) I know it is a nasty business but honestly how do those guys go to bed at night knowing what they just did to someone? It makes you question....are these guys human? I wish you lots of luck and your faith will keep you strong! God loves you and has the road clearly mapped out for you! You have our prayers!

  15. i deleted and typed a few times before i ended up with this... you are all going to be stronger, now, and you can take your strength and put it towards making things better. this business is so cut throat and it's hard to think that because thru baseball there are amazing people that God blesses us with along the way. Thankfully because it's important to have those friends that know what you are feeling when the rug gets pulled out from under you. You have tons of support and Dallas has more fans in his corner.. just check your comments! keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. .your blogging friend. . shan

  16. I gotta say I was bummed when I read your post:(. Thankfully, we are both children of God therefore can take tough news and feel better about it, knowing it's His plan. The great thing about God is that he allows us to be angry, annoyed, etc. and I'm sure expects it of us:). I'm sure in a year, if not sooner, you will know why things are working out the way they are. Trials will only make your marriage and family stronger and cause you to lean on each other. We will continue to pray for God's will for your adorable little family. Love ya!

  17. I as sorry this happened to Dallas at this time of the year -- but hopefully he will end up on a much better team. Mike saw the news and told me to get my Mother (world's most faithful Braves' fan) to call Bobby Cox. After all his research he has determined that Dallas would make a great first baseman for them!!! We will definitely be praying for him and for you and Reese. Tell your MOM hello and I hope you have a good birthday inspite of the situation.

  18. Gotta love the Marlins! They run the organization without a bit of class! The Pres. told spoke our praises on the plane ride home from last game of season , and how they looked forward to talking to us in off-season. VERY next day, first day of off-season taken off the roster. Marlins style!
Hang in there! God has a better plan for you all! Just think...no more Mermaids!!YEAH! We will be praying for you guys!

  20. Jenn, I am so sorry you and your family are having to go through this. When a door closes a window will open. We never know why things happen the way they do...there is a reason and a plan. We just have trust in God to help us through it. I will keep your family in my prayers.

  22. I am just getting this update now...we've been moving all week and just got to the internet connection today. I am so sorry to hear about your trials this spring! So many of us have been there as well. It's hard not to take it personally but honestly, Dallas will prevail. Keep the faith! Another great adventure is right around the corner.
